Chained Conviction
Raphael of Chained Conviction, interviewed minutes after the band's first ever set.
BREAKBONE I'm here with the frontman of a band called... Chained Conviction?
[we went back and forth on the name a few times; the wind won the first three rounds]
BREAKBONE And what's your name?
RAPHAEL Raphael.
BREAKBONE Right, so, you guys just did your first gig. How do you think you went?
RAPHAEL I was not that confident, but somehow we managed to pull it through. I was pretty nervous since we've been doing rehearsals for like two years, and since we got on board to do our first ever gig. I think we did pretty well for our first time, but there's still a lot of improvement stuff we still need to work on along the way.
BREAKBONE And how do you plan on doing that?
RAPHAEL It's not set on what we should do in between songs. Go over some certain parts, cause there are certain songs that are kind of a work in progress, but others are pretty good as they are.
BREAKBONE As a band, how mad for it would you say you are? Do you try and really get that vibe right, or are you just trying to figure it out right now?
RAPHAEL We mostly just figure it out and wing it, that's what we can say. Cause even at this point we don't even know what genre we are, in general.
BREAKBONE From listening to you guys, I think it's just rock and roll, really. You've got that hodgepodge, and you really just need to test it out on a crowd. How do you plan on getting more gigs? How did you get this one?
RAPHAEL There was a Google form from [the organiser]. There was a form we filled out just to see if we had any chances. We figured we didn't get any chances, but then all of a sudden we got a surprise message from the organiser.
BREAKBONE You guys really look like normal people, and I think that's what the scene wants to see right now. They just want to see normal people giving it all they've got. And I think there really needs to be more all-ages gigs. How would you describe your place in the scene right now? Where do you want to be?
RAPHAEL Just locally around Brisbane, where we can get a venue. That's the best I could say. Cause I don't want to be too confident and just go further out. That would be a bloody miracle if we do end up going further, but I really still love doing just local gigs like this, or anywhere else around Brisbane.
BREAKBONE If you had one message to say to the entire world, what would it be?
RAPHAEL Love yourself. Love yourself and express yourself. You're amazing.
BREAKBONE Thanks. Good job on your first gig. Right here, right now, history is being made; I bet you guys are gonna remember it. I think this is your big break.
RAPHAEL Yeah. Ah, shit.
